These modern times are ruled by modern technology. People are already used to using all those things that are manipulated by a single touch. They are attracted to stuff that looks really sleek, preferably in clinical white, darkest black, and chrome colors. Anything that is too bulky is regarded with distaste, as most modern gadgets pride themselves of being small yet able to do big. Stereos and radios are being replaced by iPods and phone docking devices. Nobody ever reads new suspense novels in paperback editions anymore that it is easy to forget that reading books once swept the world by storm.

Reading with the use of an actual book is slowly being forgotten by the majority of the population today. They would rather just watch the cinema adaptations of the bestselling books in movie theaters. They would rather just watch TV, too, since some of the series are derived from novels as well. Nobody would want to bring one anymore when one could just bring his or her mobile phone or any similar android device and read the story online.

What these people fail to realize is that these books bring a certain kind of joy that you do not find in the modern gadgets available today. There is nothing quite like snuggling on a couch by the window with a good suspense book and hot chocolate on a rainy day. It does not need any charging as it is not battery operated. You can get lost in its pages whenever you feel like it, wherever you feel like it.

There are also people who read, yet the books they consider to be worth reading are only the factual ones. They limit their reading selection to periodicals, science magazines and subscriptions, history books, biographies, and autobiographies of notable individuals and personalities. Those that are labeled as fiction such as romance, horror, thriller, and suspense are not worth wasting their intellect upon.

For starters, there is actually an amount of truth in these books. Sometimes, even biographies and history accounts can lie to make the person look good, but these made up stories always say the truth in the simplest way possible. They make one experience the truth is the most powerful, gripping way possible.

It also serves as a form of mind exercise. Studies prove that regular mental stimulation can help fight off most brain and mental ailments. By reading one book per day, you are actually driving dementia and Alzheimer away.

It is also a very effective way to reduce stress. Reading can allow you to get lost in the plot, effectively blocking out all the worries that you may have left at work. Too much negative thinking can lead to weaker immunity, so counter all the bad vibes away with a good read.

It also broadens your horizons. Getting lost in a novel will help you learn about the world. Even if you are not a detective or a spy, following the adventures of such a character will give you a glimpse of the life that they have. Inside a book, you can be anybody.

It also makes you think. You get to know how good people turn into the worst criminals. It also makes you aware of the many problems in life that other people are experiencing.
