Most houses have one installed, but owners often renovate existing houses, or move out to newer ones. The HVAC system keeps the house cool during summer and warm in winter not only that, but also prevents suffocation with good ventilation.

In the market, many homeowners can choose a variety of styles for their new register. Choosing the best decorative registers to complement the furnishing of your home can be daunting, but with many designs to choose from it should not be a problem. The term grill is synonymous and interchangeable, but it is meant as a perforated cover for an air duct and sometimes come with louvers to direct the flow of ventilation. However the one with a damper allows users to control the amount of hot or cold wind in a room. This is often used in commercial buildings and institutions that accommodate large numbers of people. A fire damper automatically detects smoke and extreme heat by shutting the louvers to avoid fire and smoke from traveling to other parts of the building.

Grill is interchangeable with register and referred as a permeated cover for an air duct that often comes with louvers that direct the flow of wind. However a damper allows users to control the amount of hot and cold air flowing into the room. Fire dampers are often found in buildings and institutions to detect smoke and excessive heat, it closes the louvers to prevent fire and smoke to enter different areas of the building.

Rooms that require constant temperature need two registers. One at the bottom where heat is delivered and at the top to cool. Two returns for high and low, but most hvac system has one register and one return per room.

For more efficiency, consider where the register should be placed. Usually these are situated near the door and the window because hot and cold air are lost. Returns are used to suck in wind, and found in the midst of a building on the wall or ceiling.

Size is important and it can vary. The smaller kind would force the hvac to pump out more to reach a desirable room temperature at a faster rate. But this can cause disturbing noises for the owners and tenants. However, in places where high levels of background noise, it masks the velocity and sound of wind coming out.

Improper installation could reduce its efficiency. If not properly connected to a tightly ductwork. The wind spills out on the register and it takes a longer time to achieve a desired temperature.
